The Lakes

The Lakes is a 1,080-acre mixed-use development with 159 acres of large man-made ponds.  Thirty six percent of the acreage is devoted to open space, including 21 miles of trails and lushly planted parkways that become green corridors for motorists and pedestrians. 

The site was transformed from a sod farm with several feet of soft organic soil over deep sand.  The pond sites were mined for sand to support buildings, and the peat was strategically placed to support plantings. 

The Lakes’ thirty distinct neighborhoods include detached housing, townhouses, apartments and narrow-lot singles with traditional streetscapes.  Neighborhood retail and a civic park with beach add to this master planned community of distinction.
