Dassel Water Treatment Plant Expansion
|
|
Dassel's water treatment plant was not cost-effective because of system leaks and an antiquated facility. In addition, the plant was not adequately meeting the City's current water supply demands or the needs of expected growth. In 1999, MFRA was retained to evaluate facility options and design a 700-gpm facility. Working with City staff, it was determined that a steel package unit with a steel building would best meet the supply and quality treatment needs. In addition to this new facility, back-wash water was stored in the existing water treatment plant to minimize costs. Within nine months of initiating construction, the updated Dassel water treatment plant was treating raw water and reclaiming back-wash water. As a result of comprehensive project management, the total project was within 1.4% of the original budget estimate.
